Transforming Design Education with Creativity, Circularity and Sustainability.

Long description

The HKDI is embarking on a transformative journey to create an innovative prototype—a “Circular Campus.” Guided by the Butterfly Diagram of Circular Economy, we are reimagining our educational methods and campus operations, integrating emerging technology and sustainable practices.

Design education centers on translating concepts into tangible creations, emphasizing experiential learning. However, this traditional process often exacts an environmental toll, resulting in valuable resources ending up in landfills. To confront this challenge head-on, we actively seek solutions to revolutionize design education.

Within the framework of the “Technical Cycle” and “Biological Cycle,” we are reengineering campus operations. Learning materials, operational byproducts, and event surplus will be recycled, upcycled, and thoughtfully redesigned on-site for local use. This process serves as a real-world showcase for the next generation of designers.

Our aspiration is to cultivate a Circular Campus where creativity flourishes, waste is minimized, and we set a pioneering standard for design schools worldwide.
