Long description

Africa Collect Textiles kickstarts circularity for fashion in Africa. The ACT-model installs circular systems for used clothing, uniforms as well as textile waste (off-cuts), whereby ACT reduces pollution, biodiversity loss and emissions.

Simultaneously, the model unlocks new business opportunities and generates new green jobs in collecting (e.g. waste picking from large second hand markets), sorting, reselling (of locally sourced second hand clothes), upcycling and recycling.

The contextualised ACT-model includes:

  1. collecting and redistributing used clothing in order to provide underprivileged communities with decent outfits;
  2. designing and developing new products from specific sorted waste streams, such as rugs, baskets, toys and backpacks, often of corporate workwear, such as security and park ranger uniforms.
  3. building the foundation for a circular textile and fashion industry, by sorting and recovering large quantities of materials / fibres suitable for recycling into filling and recycled yarn.
