Long description

Plastic waste has become a global problem with critical status urgency, and evidence proving that plastic waste accounts for a large percentage of greenhouse gas emissions as they disintegrate in landfills.  In South Africa, incineration is a popular method of reducing or even eliminating plastic waste. Africa is beginning to experience the brunt of the reality of climate change and we strongly believe that something can be done to change behaviours around product consumption, waste management and simultaneously create opportunities for creating new job descriptions that are crucial to the waste economy.

Binn is an end-to-end system designed to make current and existing waste management industries integrated, interconnected, visible, accessible, transparent, circular and inclusive by means of an application based platform which streamlines the waste value chain and fosters a partnership with communities, organisations, enterprises and brands. This will be achieved by employing digital technology tools to adapt the waste economy into our fast paced and increasingly changing world. We believe that this adaptation will encourage people’s interest in recycling given the attractive incentives we offer, inspire a shift in attitude regarding waste perception as well as educate the masses about the urgency of creating a change in consumption, choosing eco friendly products, constructive waste disposal, product life cycle and overall impact on the environment. This concept has the potential to create employment and various opportunities, especially for women and girls as they are already the backbone of the recycling industry, encourage cleaner spaces and contribute to economic growth.
