Tequila has become a well-known spirit that shows a fraction of the Mexican culture, and now is eclipsing in sales whisky and vodka in the USA. While this phenomenon is economically favorable, the amount of waste generated per litter is impressive. Approximately 1 kg of leaves and 1.4 of bagasse are produced for every litter. Last year 598.7 million litters were exported. So, the issue is the lack of hands to transform the by-products into something useful.
Cuemái is a design project that redefines tequila waste as a valuable resource for the textile industry. Through strategic partnerships with Tequila distilleries, chemistry experts, and textile mills, I aim to lead the transition toward a process minimizing environmental impact and fostering economic growth and cultural preservation in tequila-producing regions.
