Our circular model simultaneously recycles plastic waste and creates green jobs - by partnering with marginalised communities.
Long description
Eco Brixs was founded in response to a lack of waste management systems in Uganda, as well as high levels of unemployment and poverty.
Through its circular model, it’s tackling these challenges simultaneously. It does this by paying individuals for each kilogram of plastic they bring to Eco Brixs. The plastic waste is then recycled into products (eg. bricks, lumber, flake) and sold by Eco Brixs. Using this revenue, further plastic is purchased from the community, and so the cycle continues.
Within this model, there is a focus on creating job opportunities for marginalised groups, such as young people, women and people with disabilities.
Furthermore, Eco Brixs also partners with schools to teach pupils about the 3 R’s (reduce, reuse and recycle).
