NAMFUKO is a fabric waste foldable shopping-carry bag exploiting thrown away fabric into patch work to beat pollution and single use packaging..
Long description
Turning threats into opportunities and killing two birds with one stone is Na’Mfuko. NAAM Festival started NAAM Tuvae waste innovation and upcycling studio generating waste-to-art/wear products in August 2019. NA’MFUKO then began as an organic paper bag. Made out of waste paper mixed with hyacinth water weed choking Lake Victoria along with plastic and fabric waste. Later, we set out to make a stronger bag for sustainability turning threats into opportunities and reducing impacts of pollution. Prototyped a foldable returnable carry bag made out of waste fabric patchwork 3 years later. Today we have produced bags for seminars, conferences and individual buyers at the festivals after a national ban on single use plastic carry bags that brought new threat of woven plastic bags. We use art, circular innovation, dialogue and storytelling to break down complex climate issues and showcase possible solution to repair ecosystem damages.
