Transforming rambutan fruit waste into a strong and beautiful material with multiple product applications that easily reintegrates into nature.
Long description
At Studio Hole, since 2021, we’ve embarked on a mission to transform material culture and redefine the concept of ‘waste’ through the development of innovative biomaterials. Many conventional manufacturing materials not only consume vast amounts of water and energy but also rely on virgin resources. The worst part is that many bioaccumulate in living beings or emit toxic substances into ecosystems. Our latest project, Nepheon, crafted from rambutan fruit waste, offers a lightweight yet strong material that serves as an alternative to harmful substances like single-use plastic in packaging or everyday products. By integrating science and design, Nepheon emerges as a binder-free, toxin-free material, poised to facilitate effortless reintegration into nature, enriching soils, and promoting ecosystem regeneration at the end of its lifecycle.
