Transforming cocoa waste into community-centric products through a circular business model in Ghana.

Long description

In cocoa farming, significant biomass is discarded, including from cocoa beans and plantains, totaling roughly 80% waste. At the farm of plentyplenty.africa in Ghana this “waste” is seen as a source of inspiration. We aim to transform this biomass into new business opportunities, fostering inclusive communities with local farmers. The project explores a circular business model for cocoa waste, researching processing technologies and testing feasibility for various products. Using the Build-Measure-Learn Framework, we analyze waste streams, adapt processing to local contexts inspired by indigenous techniques, and create a showcase house offering cocoa waste products.
