Family of PETE bottles for liquid containment redesigned for further use as construction modules.

Long description

The Real Eco-Brick project’s purpose is to tackle the dual challenges of plastic pollution and construction industry waste by repurposing common PETE bottles into sustainable construction modules. Its process starts after designing and presenting a whole family of bottles/modules for then meeting policymakers and industry stakeholders to promote its adoption and manufacture instead of the common plastic bottle design. Once used for liquid containment, the bottles/modules are filled with construction waste, maximizing resource efficiency and eliminating the environmental impact of its sole disposal. Stacked and interlocked using their grooves and grips, they create stable structures akin to traditional bricks. Significantly, the project reduces plastic waste, offers a cost-effective alternative to traditional materials presenting a sustainable option that is scalable for diverse contexts, addressing both urban and rural needs where plastic waste and housing pauperization prevail.
