A PLATFORM ENGAGING TOURISM COMMUNITY AND PARTNERS TOWARDS RESTORATION OF DEGRADED OCEAN ECOSYSTEM
Long description
Coastlands natural capital such as mangrove and seagrass offer a number of ecosystem services such as protecting coastal areas, fishing grounds, trapping waste from land, and mitigation of CO2 emissions.
Tourism is one of the major activities carried out within coastlands with communities such as women being at the forefront of restoration but also depend on these ecosystems for sourcing life needs.
TouRestore is the platform that offers easy means to pay ‘’Ecosystem Services’’ to communities from different partners such as tourists’ communities, oil exploration companies, shipping companies, and other interested partners.
The overall project objective is to provide a traceable tool that can enable ‘’micropayments’’ to beneficiaries such as women and youth who put much of their time and efforts into restoring depleted marine ecosystems.
On the other end, stakeholders can participate indirectly in the restoration of these vital ecosystems and be able to quantify the impact they are making to marginalized communities.
