Long description

In 2022, Sanne moved to Kampala, Uganda. While looking for a tailor to make hair accessories as family gifts, Sanne ran into Anna at their local market in the neighbourhood Namuwongo. Anna got creative and used African scrap fabric to make a bag full of colourful unique scrunchies. The joy these small presents brought on all sides inspired Sanne and Julia to start ‘Scrappies’, scrunchies from scrap fabric.

Today, Scrappies has created and sold more than 800 items and saved around 25 kgs of fabric from landfill. But more importantly: Anna earned an additional income of $250 in a bit more than a year, equal to an average four months income.

Scrappies is growing. By developing a partnership with Touch the Slum Namuwongo, 40 other women skilled in tailoring will benefit each year by selling scrappies. And, hundreds of kgs of fabrics will be saved from landfill.
