Solo is a materials innovation startup on a mission to reduce single-use plastics in packaging through design and botany.
After studies and tests, it was discovered that fibers from certain palm tree species’ leaves would be ideal for packaging, with characteristics such as heat retention, microwave, oven, and freezer resistance, all without adding any other composite.
Thus, it was developed an eco-friendly packaging using a single material: dried palm leaf. This material is an abundant residue from large industries and communities in Brazil, allowing for the scalability of these products and addressing both plastic waste and plantation waste management.
Solo extends beyond environmental impact, socially empowering cooperative members in vulnerable communities while culturally disrupting consumer habits, prompting a reevaluation of single-plastic use.
