Long description

Every type of production creates waste. With slipcasting I create trimmings; leftovers from cutting off excess clay. In continuation of my recycling research, I designed a new tableware collection made of 100% recycled porcelain. The name STUCCO comes from the series of wall tiles I created in 2022, inspired by plasterwork techniques.

The trimmings used for this project are collected during the workshops I give in my studio. It’s a mix of multiple colours and by mixing them together I end up with a grey slip. Due to variations, each batch has a slightly different hue. Because reclaimed slip is too thick for regular casting, I experimented with new ways to apply it in the mould. By smearing it manually, layer by layer, it creates the most unique patterns and textures. Both inside and out.

Turning waste into the most tactile collection I’ve made so far.
