Long description

YUMI is a word of “awajun” origin, the second largest native people of Peru, In November 2023, a pilot model was tested to improve the community’s food conditions through technology transfer of fruit and seed dehydrator systems and community training using pineapples.Dehydrating food is a strategy to add value to food production by extending its shelf life. The use of ancestral and traditional knowledge has been useful in urban contexts such as Lima, Peru.
Our team, Ortopedia urbana, a design company that develops projects in public space, composed of Mexican designers, we have seen that this project can be suitable for our country as well. With the purpose of replicating this model to other contexts we have designed a community station that can be installed in public spaces and community centers where it is possible to collect, dehydrate and exchange food and preserves through a participatory pedagogy, being modular.
